Image Test on Sony Ericsson K750i Smartphone

Here is a set of sample images captured in a variety of environments and their untouched text output generated from TopOCR. For the K750i smartphone which has a 2MP CMOS camera, we modified the settings on the TopOCR Configure Camera Filter... to the following:

After some simple trial and error experiments, we chose the following for the Adaptive Thresholding parameters:

We recommend using these settings to start with for smartphones. TopOCR's default initial configuration is set to work with higher resolution Digital Still Camera's. To determine the best setting for your camera or smartphone, you'll need to try several iterations of changing these settings and clicking the OCR button, and noting the results. You can also get a visual preview of these settings by going to the Image Menu and clicking on Binarize or Sharpen and then examine the resulting image.
