PRICE GROWTH FOR REAL ESTATE
· Residential real estate prices continued growing dramatically in the first quarter ofthis year, signalingthat apartments and houses remain one of the most attractive investment targets and a major savings tool for most wealthy Ukrainians.
Prices on residential space in Kyiv surged by 15% since December 2004, reaching an average of US$2,000 in the center of the capital and US$830 in the outskirts. An average three-room apartment with bare walls in Kyiv's popular "sleeping district" now starts at US$100,000. A one-room apartment in the same area is likely to cost US$40,000, just a little less than a similar place in Moscow.
Apartment rents also hiked by up to 25% over the period, with landlords now asking at least US$250 a month for one-room flats located near the metro in the city's outskirts.
Realtors said prices on residential property will continue surging and are likelyto Jump by a total of at least 30% bythe year-end. They said high demand and more accessible mortgages have kept the price growth from slowing down.
